what i did at work today

so i started substitute teaching recently. i was kind of nervous at first - i'm not really the most experienced (or successful) at controlling little kids. if they all suddenly decide to pull together and mutiny against the sub, what can you really do? hopefully they will never realize there are more of them than me..... anyway today i subbed for an art class, which sounds exciting and all but was actually quite boring. at least today it was :P i guess teachers often don't trust the sub to be able to teach the material, so the teacher left a bunch of busy work for people to do. i just handed out packets for them to read and watched them do homework. needless to say i got bored.
which means...dun dun dun!!! today is your lucky day! because i spent most of it drawing fun pictures. oh pen drawings of animals, how i missed you.

this is what i felt like in the morning when i first got to school:

and this is what i felt like after the elementary school class:

iiiii'm just kidding - it wasn't bad, really :P but it was good to just draw for fun again - i was worried i'd forgotten how. i hope you enjoy the rest of my artistic vomit:

this is what i would look like as an alien! you know, if i had curly hair and wore polka-dot dresses and stuff. but it has a weird neck bump just like me, so...we could be twins

does this count as "fanart?"

so apparently i draw a lot from (pun intended) movies i see :P i watched "planet 51" the other day, then proceeded to draw this little dude in my culture class. cute movie, not exactly pixar but who is? :P (besides pixar of course) but i thought the aliens were adorable - especially their little monkey feet. eeeeeek!

monsters and superheroes

wow, i'm embarrassed to show this to people. so i started my ghost story painting - it's a lot of fun! unfortunately i discovered a few things: watercolors are not my friends...and perspective and lighting aren't my friends either. oh well, so i have some challenges to work through in this one. as you can see here, i have the under painting (don't worry, i'll up the contrast and fix everything later) of two frightened children. but what's happening in the rest of the painting? muahahaha stay tuned for later installments. anyway, this image is kind of depressing me, so i'm gonna post another sketch

woooo it's an alien baby thing! hey, in other news, i got a COMMISSION today! :D yayyy paying job - super exciting! someone has asked me to illustrate this magical, superhero alter-ego his daughter has made up so he can give it to her for her birthday. on one hand, this is awesome because now i can earn me some moneys, and hey, it's a fun project - but on the other hand....i'm gonna have to put this ghost story one on hold for a bit, and that's gonna drive my ocd self kind of crazy. but i'll try to post stuff as i go. and sorry again, the painting isn't quite as washed out in real life...having some scanner/overexposure issues.
